Pianist Lazar Berman is regarded a great pianist by some, just a very good technician and therefore despicable musician& - by others. This controversy does not detract anything from the impressive performances and interpretations Berman has recorded over the years. Especially of romantic music, like the works by Liszt such as the Sonata and Etudes included here.
This set of 7 CDs offers an overview of Bermans career. In addition to the Liszt there is a selection of 20th-century music (Debussy, Ravel, Scriabin, Falla, Prokofiev, Kazhlayev) and classical repertoire by Mozart, Beethoven (Moonlight and Appassionata),Haydn, Scarlatti and Clementi. More romantic music by Tchaikovsky (Scherzo from Symphony No. 6 Pathétique , arranged by Samuel Feinberg) and some Etudes by Chopin. |
