Yes, there is more to Handel than the Messiah, Water Music and organ conceros. Now we release another Baroque stage-like work performed by Jed Wentz and his ensemble Music ad Rhenum: Handels cantata La terra è liberata also known as Apollo e Daphne. It was written during and after the composers his first visit to Italy when he was 25. At the end of this year he arrived in London which soon he was to take by storm with his opera Rinaldo.
This CD also contains the theatre music for the Alchymist written in the same year. A rare opportunity to hear this stage music by Handel which has been recorded only a couple of times before. Lively music by an extremely talented composer.
Jed Wentz has a special affinity with early opera. He has recorded all Mozarts early stage works for Brilliant Classics. As he did Purcells Dido and Aeneas, and Galliards Pan and Syrinx.
Once more exuberating performances by Jed Wentz and Musica ad Rhenum together with excellent singers soprano Nicola Wemyss as Dafne and Tom Soll as Apollo. |
