Italian composer Castelnuovo-Tedesco has written quite a few pieces for the guitar. Somehow his first guitar concerto (1939) has become far better known than any other piece he has written. It was the last piece before he fled to the USA and has been frequently recorded.
Tedesco was a hugely prolific composer. In addition to many works in different genres there are two more guitar concertos. One for a single guitar and one for two guitars and orchestra, both of a later date. The twentieth-century composer added distinct Spanish and Mexican flavours to his music.
This CD offers a more complete view on Castelnuovo-Tedescos guitar concertos than previously available. |
