Carulli: Complete works for guitar and fortepiano
Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1841) was a Neapolitan composer and a virtuoso on the guitar. He emancipated the instrument, and made it a favourite of the Parisian salons, where it became increasingly popular. Combining the guitar with the fortepiano (this to lend the by origin weak guitar a more powerful harmonic accompaniment) he wrote a great many duets, variations and arrangements of popular works (notably the overtures by Rossini). The complete works are collected in this 8-CD set, and guarantee many hours of enjoyable listening to this graceful and tuneful music. |
