Boccherinis string quintets have more to offer than the almost infamous Minuet (from G 275). The gifted Italian composer wrote a huge amount of chamber music, including many string quintets combinations of instruments.
This recording features the Italian Baroque ensemble La Magnifica Comunita who perform the works on period instruments.
Since Boccherini himself was a professional cello-player he often choose for this more unusual combination with the 2 celli. His music is often a vibrant mixture of Romantic, Italian and Spanish or rather Andalusian elements. This together with intense performances has resulted in 2 attractive CDs. |
